Whoopla! Búin að skila inn fyrstu ritgerðinni minni!!!! Gaman gaman gaman gaman. Núna þarf ég bara að skila inn tveimur í viðbót á morgun og einni í næstu viku og þá er ég BÚIN. Whoopla. Annars vildi ég ekkert segja nema þetta. Já og auðvitað að monta mig af ritgerðinni minni, sem er ekki gallalaus, og þarf mikla vinnu til að vera að the polished gem that it shows the potential to become, en eins og við vitum öll, þá eru lokaritgerðir alltaf hráar. Alvöru vinnan hefst þegar farið er að vinna úr efninu á sjálfstæðan máta og tímaritsgrein skrifuð upp úr henni. Fyrir þá sem vilja lesa lokaorð ritgerðinnar, haldið áfram, hinir geta farið eitthvert annað.
Conversations in the Garden of Eden: Problems of Identity and Social Formation in Aphra Behn’s Oroonoko
The optimistic view of Surinam as an utopian society that the narrator tries to convey to the reader collapses in the end. The natural beauty and sweet smell of the country that had been so delightful in the earlier stages of the narrative become putrid at the end of the book. Oroonoko is almost subsumed by the viscous nature of this paradise. After killing Imoinda and laying her body on a bed of flowers, he sinks to the ground beside her and lies there for eight days. As Imoinda’s flowered black body melts into the ground and her cloying smell blends with the natural scents of the land, the reader comes to the realization that there is no nobility and no utopian paradise in the story of Oroonoko, the royal slave. Oroonoko is the story of forced slavery, of death and of broken promises. It is the story of the rape of Surinam by strange metallic invaders. And the bright colored flowers that seemed so innocent at the beginning of the story, providing shade to happy lovers from the glare of the sun, now provide their deathbeds.
